Container of Hope
Tuesday 2nd March will be a memorable day for Hailsham based Computers for Charities. After six months careful planning and preparation a 40’ container will be loaded with a wide range of materials and resources bound for a community project in Zimbabwe.
Chairman Simon Rooksby says. Because Zimbabwe as with other needy countries does not feature in the news headlines, does not mean the problems and difficulties have gone away.
Extreme poverty and hardship are difficult factors to describe, however the project being supported which cannot be named due to political reasons has continued throughout the troubles and provides a lifeline to the region with it’s primary and secondary school, clinic, feeding program and still operates a farm for community benefit.
Overwhelming support for the shipment has both covered the costs required for the shipment plus the provision of wide ranging specialist agricultural to educational materials plus aid items donated to the charity from sources around the UK including Scotland, Devon, Cheshire, Essex and Kent.
Over 10 tonnes of equipment have been provided and 10,000 items checked and packed by local volunteers over the past month. Now the end is in sight as the whole process is assembled on March 2nd for shipping to Mozambique then by road to Zimbabwe.
Simon says "it’s proved quite a challenge and though sadly it is not the solution, this consignment will provide much hope and encouragement to many and provides a salient reminder as to what is possible"
