Dead mobile phones save lives. Yes simply by sending us your old or broken mobile phone you can make a difference for disadvantaged and disabled Children across the UK and Eastern Europe
4000 mobile phones are urgently needed to help us reach our target. 173 phones donated since 1st January 2010.

Mimoza's story
Mimoza is a diminutive, unassuming and blind lady the charity encountered in Eastern Europe. A remarkable person given here Vision and commitment in developing the regions first school for the blind. She as with other people living with a disability have been classified as no hoper's and worthless. In Mimoza's case as with many pioneers projects the charity supports, the authorities got it wrong big time.
The "School of Light" is a school for the blind, a first but it does not happen over night. Computers for Charities supported by Freedom Scientific and British Airways have started the ball rolling with the supply and installation of basic Braille equipment and computer systems incorporating "Jaws" voice recognition software to provide much needed learning opportunities for the students.
This short outline underlines the reality and bleakness faced by countless Children and adults experiencing disability and hardship. Can you imagine how it must feel to be shunned by family, community and state, a life of total isolation and confinement? What a waste.
We need your help today to support the Mimoza's of this world ……It’s not just phones we need, Further equipment required includes; Additional Braille equipment including printers, Children's football shirts, basic medical supplies, audio recording and audio cassette copying equipment, we can use it. And more besides...
How it happens?
"Lorry for Life" is a unique appeal made possible by generous support from Mercedes UK, Rossetts Commercials and Dixons since 2003. Simply by donating your working or non working mobile phone (regardless of age) to Computers for Charities will enable the charity to receive much needed vehicles.
Yes it's that simple, basically as with air miles phones donated phones are exchanged for Vans and Lorries helping us to get resources to areas of need across the UK and Europe.
Each and every day, Computers for Charities receives over 500 requests seeking wide ranging assistance and support. How do you respond to such need? and provide support where it is needed. It's not easy... Since day one, We continue too help as many as possible but urgently need additional vehicles to serve the growing requests.
Computers for Charities needs 4000 mobile phones or the equivalent of £50,000 to purchase a modified 7.5 tonne lorry from Mercedes. This lorry will significantly increase the movement of even larger quantities of much needed computer equipment, resources, aid items and Volunteers.
Christmas Shoebox appeal for the Elderly
As we make preparations to undertake our fifth Christmas shoebox appeal for the elderly, access to such vehicles also would enable wider and larger distribution opportunities to some of the poorest and most impoverished communities. Please help us as we seek to help them.
Pledges and support are invaluable at this time. Your mobile phones can be sent directly to Computers for Charities or possibly you may wish to go that step further and set up a collecting point at your school, church or office.
